The mayan ruins of Palenque

A beautiful archeological site in the jungle with Mayan buildings and temples from the 2nd to the 7th century. It has some of the nicest architecture, sculptures and carvings that the Mayans produced. Most of the ancient city is still unexplored and hidden by the jungle but many wonderful buildings have been restored.

A small but interesting museum is available at the edge of the ruins. The site is located a few minutes from Palenque city center by colectivo (20 pesos, stops outside ADO-terminal).
